Singer Tony Hadley may have topped the charts with Spandau Ballet, but his horse namesake, Hadley, will be swimming in much shallower waters when he contests the 7.15 at Newcastle tonight.
The equine Hadley is a 12 raced maiden, but he ran a corker last time at this track when 3rd. Since that race, the 1st, 2nd and 6th have all run again and won, so the form is really working out well.
Jockey Ben Curtis rode Hadley for the first time in his last run and will have learned that the horse needs stoking up a little earlier especially over this shortened trip.
Connections have reached for the first time cheek-pieces, and first time headgear can be great for sharpening a horse up. Add in a draw which allows him to slipstream the runaway Pearl Noir, and there is good reason to expect a great run.
To cut a long story short, I can’t say he is a certainty, but he should run far better than his odds – I know this much is true…
Recommendation: Hadley (19.15, Newcastle), 8-1 generally available
