Arsenal entertain German champions Bayern Munich later Tuesday, in a seemingly hopeless attempt to progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
The north London club were routed 5-1 in the first leg in Munich last month, and look likely to go out of the prestigious European tournament at the last-16 stage for the seventh year in a row.
Now it’s true that at the start of this decade Arsenal went out of the Champions League at this stage in glorious failure, going out to Barcelona and AC Milan despite winning the home legs 2-1 and 3-0, respectively.
But the results at the Emirates over the last few years have been less impressive – losing 2-0 twice, to Barcelona and Bayern, and 3-1 twice, to Monaco and Bayern again.
Bayern are odds on to win tonight, and deserve to be given the ease with which they dismantled Arsenal in the first leg.
But the 19/20 widely on offer won’t make you rich. It may be worth looking elsewhere.
The pattern of the last few years suggests a defeat for Arsenal by either 2-0 or 3-1. BetVictor offers 12/1 the 2-0 away win and Paddy Power 13/1 the 3-1 score line.
If these odds are a little rich for your liking, Dutch winger Arjen Robben caused the Arsenal’s defence untold trouble during the first leg. He can be backed widely at 11/4 to assist a goal at any time during the clash.
Recommendation: Robben to assist a goal at 11/4
