Whilst the UK offers up some typically mundane Sunday fare, the Irish give us a cracking card at Naas, deepest Co Kildare.
It is inevitable at this time that races should be closely examined for clues to form-lines heading into this week’s Cheltenham festival.
By far the most interesting race in that regard is the 2m 3f handicap hurdle at 3.15. This race gives us a chance to test the form of leading festival handicap fancy Presenting Percy.
He was an easy winner at Fairyhouse last time, earning a 10lb rise from the Irish handicapper (and an additional 6lbs from the UK handicapper). The second that day, That’s A Wrap, has only a 3lb rating hike to overcome if he is to go one better at Naas today.
Presenting Percy features prominently in our festival thoughts, and if he is to be competitive off his lofty mark, then we need to see That’s A Wrap win today. He may well do so as he travelled conspicuously well at Fairyhouse and was only beaten by a hugely talented horse, and odds of 3/1 look quite generous.
Carrig Cathal was third that day and should go well again but is unlikely to turn the form around with That’s A Wrap.
Recommendation: That’s A Wrap, (Naas 15:15), 3-1 generally available
