A fine win for American at Uttoxeter was not enough to secure a profitable day’s horse racing. And when a narrow Wales win (advised at 13/5) was denied by the longest period of added time in international rugby history, the weekend looked like getting off to a modest start.
However, Ireland’s superb Grand Slam denying victory over England sparked unlikely celebrations at Lap Of The Odds HQ.
We had advised backing England scrum half replacement Danny Care to be the Six Nations top try scorer at 33/1, a price we had computed was around twice the fair odds. He entered the day in an 8-way tie – and so it ended, for although Care could not register, nor did any of the other seven try-scoring leaders.
A 1/8th dead heat pays a little over 3/1. But as the Rolling Stones put it “You can’t always get what you want, but sometimes, you get what you need”…
