England travel to Dortmund later Wednesday to take on Germany in a prestige friendly match, ahead of Sunday’s World Cup qualifier with Lithuania at Wembley.
Trying to predict how England will play is not easy, after all only a year ago Roy Hodgson’s team beat Germany 3-2 away from home in a friendly before crashing out of the European Championships in disasterous fashion with defeat to Iceland in the summer.
That said, new England manager Gareth Southgate looks set to experiment with a three-man defensive system, including giving Burnley’s Michael Keane his debut. Friendly games are clearly the right occasions to try new things, but an away game in Germany is tricky enough for a settled team.
Germany are missing some high profile players, but they are sure to want to say farewell to Lukas Podolski, who wins his 130th and final cap, in a positive fashion.
The 15/8 Paddy Power offers on Germany to win with a one goal handicap looks a healthy price, while punters who want to speculate at greater odds could do worse than take the 13/1 on a 3-1 home win.
Recommendation: Germany to win with one goal handicap at 15/8, Paddy Power
