World Cup Qualifier: England to the Four

England return to Wembley later Sunday, after the midweek defeat to Germany, keen to advance their chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Standing in their way are Lithuania, a team England have only faced twice before – winning 4-0 at home and 3-0 away in the group qualifying stage for the 2016 European Championships.

Whereas England top the group with three wins and a draw from their opening four games, Lithuania have had difficulty registering away wins. The last time they won away from home was in September 2014, in San Marino.

This all suggests an easy home  win this evening, and with England yet to concede a goal in qualifying a win to nil makes sense.

However, at 4/9 that won’t make you rich. A score line of 4-0, i.e. matching the previous home win against this opponent, is quoted at 7/1 by Paddy Power and looks interesting.

Also worth noting is the 9/2 Bet365 offers on Eric Dier scoring at any time during the game. Dier could well take free kicks for England as well as being a powerful presence on corners.

Recommendation: England to beat Lithuania 4-0 at 7/1, Paddy Power
