Plumpton Races: A free drop…

After the withdrawal of our fancy Goodnight Charlie at Plumpton, we stay at the Sussex track but bring our clocks forward an hour (this could be confusing), and consider the 2m4f handicap hurdle (1500 BST).

This looks like a closely-knit handicap, but if there is one lurking on a potentially lenient mark it could be that golfer’s saviour, Groundunderrepair, and we will be utilising our free drop to make him our bet of the day.

His eye-catching run came when a staying on third at this track 2 runs ago.  The easy winner that day, Jerrysback, is probably heading for bigger things.  All 4 of the first 5 home to have run since have won since,  including the 4th who was just behind our selection and now has a mark 19lbs higher.

Groundunderrepair is one of the subsequent winners with a  tidy success last time at Lingfield.  He only has a small amount in hand of King Uther and Clondaw Bisto on that Plumpton run, but he looks the most progressive of the three.

Trainer’s son Thomas Greatrex is a tidy young jockey and his 7lb claim only serves to improve his chances.

Recommendation:  Groundunderrepair (1500 Plumpton), 6/1 generally available
