Such is the length of the regular MLB season, the law of large numbers tends to dictate that there are few shocks in the ultimate divisional winners.
For the most part that looks likely to follow trend for the season which kicks off (or at least pitches off) later today.
If there is to be a surprise it may be the turn of the National League West. This division has been dominated by twin powers the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. With pitching titans Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw at the respective helms, another strong season beckons.
One of the joys of baseball, however, is that even a star pitcher can only play 20%-25% of the matches. That’s not so much of a problem for both the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks as neither would have a pitcher of superstar status. Both teams though have potent hitting line-ups and can do better than last year.
The Rockies are tempting. They showed promise at times throughout the 2016 campaign. They have a strong hitting line-up, but have now married that to a promising looking pitching rotation.
A quick start will be essential, and early match-ups with the Brewers and the Padres give the Rockies a chance to get a good April under the belt and put themselves in the mix.
Recommendation: National League West Division, Colorado Rockies, 14/1 Ladbrokes, Coral, Betvictor
