Cricket: The Wrath of Khan

It is always good to spot the next big thing at an early stage, and to the likes of a young Rooney’s goal for Everton v Arsenal, and Sprinter Sacre’s Ffos Las novice hurdle win, we can add the arrival of 18 year old Pakistan leg spin bowler Shadab Khan.

He arrived in the West Indies for the recent T20 series as an international debutant with just 4 first class domestic games in the bag.  In the series opener, the Windies batsmen thought it was Christmas, but 4 dismissals later realised they may have underestimated the whizz-kid.

We were struck by a subsequent match in the series when veteran Windies batsman Marlon Samuels was anchoring the innings and decided to see Khan off by defensively batting out an over.  He was bowled by the 5th ball, bamboozled by Khan’s ability to spin it both ways.

In the four T20 games, and the first full 50 over one day international, Shadab has been Pakistan’s top bowler outright twice, been in a two-way dead-heat twice, and a three-way dead heat once.  That’s 5 times and never anything but top bowler.

He can be backed at 3/1 to keep that sequence going in today’s second ODI, and that has to look a good bet.

Recommendation:  Shadab Khan, 3/1 – Top Pakistan Bowler, 2nd ODI v West Indies, bets to be placed today before 1430 BST.
