Monday Races: Early Doors at Kelso

Well after all the excitement of Aintree and Augusta, we are faced with the more mundane prospect of Kelso, Tramore, Redcar and Windsor on a Monday afternoon.  Both Windsor and Redcar are hard enough venues for finding winners in mid-Season, let alone with early season uncertainty to factor in – so we will concentrate north of the border at Kelso’s jump fixture.

There aren’t too many diamonds hiding in the rough, but Kelso’s opener (1410 BST) looks likely to offer one consistent sort the chance to finally hit the winner’s enclosure.

The Doorman would not be one of owner JP McManus’s leading lights.  He started life in Ireland with Mouse Morris, but some initial promise turned into disaster with a series of failures to complete over fences.

Switched to England and Ben Haslam, and switched to hurdles, he has gradually recovered some old form, and his last two narrow defeats suggest his time is imminent.

A couple of likely rivals in Mondlicht and Buckled ensure that The Doorman will go off at an accessible price, and with the drying ground likely to suit, he can finally register a win for the season.

Recommendation:  The Doorman, (1410 Kelso), 3/1 generally available
