Tuesday Races: The Full Ponty Monty..

Some racetracks seem destined to remain mysteries to punters, Windsor does it for us, whilst others are as easy to read as my dog Rufus (2 runner field, 4/6 Walkies, 11/8 Sausage).  Pontefract, a nice track in South Yorkshire if you’ve never been (lovely cup of hot chocolate – usually necessary), is a friendly face for us, and a welcome sight this Tuesday.

Bet of the day is the well handicapped Off Art (1710 BST).  Like many in his stable he had a quiet 2016, but there have been good signs from his stablemates of late and he has dropped to a mark a full 20lbs lower than when runner-up on debut last season.  He was also runner up off that elevated mark on debut in 2015, and 5th in a Lincoln on debut in 2014.  Clearly well fresh, and with the stable back in some form, he looks thrown in here.

The quality race of the day is the 1610, where Micky Quinn’s Great Hall can defy top weight. It’s a while since the trainer was knocking them in for Newcastle, and he has gone up in the weights even more than his horse, but he can be celebrating again having given this horse a conspicuously tender pipe-opener on the all-weather recently. Money at double figure odds would be very interesting.

Tuscan Gold in the marathon (1540) nearly made it a treble as he looks well in on his runner-up efforts in this race the last two years, but we’ll be keeping our powder dry for Great Hall and Off Art.

Recommendations: Off Art (1710 Pontefract) 4/1 generally available &  Great Hall (1610 Pontefract)  11/1 available in places.
