An interesting Saturday card features the Challenger Series finals at Haydock, all of which look supremely competitive, plus some good action north of the border at Musselburgh.
Starting in Scotland, The Queen’s Cup handicap (1535 BST) looks very competitive. Certainly we would give quality runner Shrewd a big chance, but trainer Tim Easterby has his string in excellent early season form and his runner here, My Reward, looks very interesting.
He ended last season on a lull, like many of his stablemates, but that means he is rated no higher than when 2nd and 1st in his opening 2 runs of last season. With the stable flying he looks very interesting at double figure odds.
Back over the jumps at Haydock, an uber-competitive card offers up an interesting race at 1515. This looks like a race that could be run at a healthy pace, and with all respect to the favourites, that tactic could help good ground lover Caius Marcius.
He foiled one of our tips when staying on late to win a fast run race at Wetherby last time, and this race looks like it could represent a duplicate tactical challenge. It is certainly a competitive race, but on that last showing, Caius Marcius should not be a double figure price.
Recommendations: Caius Marcius (1515 Haydock), 14/1 generally available, each way; & My Reward (1535 Musselburgh) 11/1 generally available.
