Royal Challengers Bangalore, fresh from watching the rain disrupt their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad Tuesday, face the Gujarat Lions today with their place in the playoffs hanging by a thread.
RCB have five points from eight games and lie in sixth place. Even victories from their remaining six matches would not guarantee a top four playoff berth.
Still, they now face the Gujarat Lions, a team lying in last position in the eight team league and who they have beaten three times in four meetings.
The last time these two teams met RCB ran away with the match, helped by a century opening stand between Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli. In fact, Kohli has an outstanding record against the Lions, he averages 91, with a strike rate of over 160.
However, even that pales alongside the record of AB de Villiers. The South African averages 228, with a strike rate of over 198.
On the grounds of horses for courses, we look for de Villiers to star again and the 11/4 that he scores the most runs for RCB offers value.
However, if AB was to cut loose, the likelihood of RCB winning increases, a sure equation for a man of the match award.
Recommendation: AB de Villiers to win man of the match at 15/2, Paddy Power
