Today’s second IPL game sees a mouth-watering clash between the Gujarat Lions and the Mumbai Indians.
The pitch in Rajkot has been full of runs so far, and with power to spare in both batting line-ups this will be a match where plenty of bowlers might be best advised to wake up with a bit of Delhi-belly, or a mild calf strain, and watch the carnage from the dressing room.
Leading the Lions hitting will be master-blaster Brendon McCullum, along with skipper Suresh Raina and Aussie slogger Aaron Finch. That line up should ensure a big target if batting first, whilst also inspiring fear in any team looking to set a target.
Fear doesn’t feature much in the Indians batting style. It’s hammer down from the offset with flashing blades Patel and Buttler, supported by the equally aggressive Rana and Sharma.
These ingredients suggest an aggressive approach from the Indians, whether setting or chasing, and it should be fun to watch. It may also mean runs are shared as there will be no room for a traditional anchorman role. That in turn could set up legendary West Indian blaster Kieron Pollard for a merry slog batting at No. 5.
He has already top scored for the Indians twice during this campaign, and whilst most bookies consider this a roughly 6/1-8/1 prospect today, both Ladbrokes and Coral look generously out of line with offers of 10/1. That’ll do nicely.
Recommendation: K Pollard, Top Mumbai Indians Batsman, 10/1, Ladbrokes, Coral
