Champions League: Stalemate in Monaco

Monaco and Juventus square up in the Stade Louis II tonight, in the first leg of the second Champions League semifinal.

The two sides have met at this stage once before, with the Italian giants progressing 6-4 on aggregate 19 years ago, before losing to Real Madrid in the final.

And defending champions Real already look to have one foot in the final after thrashing city rivals Atletico in the first semi last night.

Tonight’s clash matches the youthful exuberance of Monaco with Juventus’s experience and know how.

The last time this French side made the semifinals was in 2004, while Juventus have made the semis for the second time in three seasons.

Monaco stunned both Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund to be here, becoming the first team in the competition’s history to score at least three times in four consecutive matches.

By contrast, the Old Lady from Turin has not conceded a goal for 531 minutes, the longest current run in the tournament – and this includes two quarterfinal clashes with free scoring Barcelona.

We at Lap of the Odds expect experience to come out on top, and see Juventus stifling Monaco’s ambition, hoping to drag ┬áthe French back to Turin after a goalless draw.

Recommendation: No goalscorer at 10/1, Stan James
