Typical Monday fare sees the usual Windsor evening meeting and the regular trip to South Yorkshire, with Wetherby taking the spot usually reserved for neighbour Pontefract.
The big interest at Windsor will be John Gosden’s Crowned Eagle in the second race. He carries top weight in this handicap, but retains a Derby entry suggesting he is well above this class. The bookies can see that and odds of 2/1 may not look a gift at first sight.
There are number of similarly unexposed types in opposition, but Frankie Dettori looks likely to grab the rail and take no prisoners on the favourite for what will need to be an easy win to justify those future entries.
Over at Wetherby we like another top weight in the shape of the David O’Meara trained Mon Beau Visage. This horse won two handicaps in this grade last season. He has been toiling in a higher class since, albeit with promise on his two runs this year.
Eased a few pounds in the ratings, he gets to drop back to this class for the first time since his last win. He can use a nice draw and his strong travelling style to good effect against these mostly moderate types.
Mon Beau Visage (1600 Wetherby), 6/1, generally available.
Crowned Eagle (1750 Windsor), 2/1, generally available.
