Giro: It’s an uphill struggle..

The Giro D’Italia heads back uphill today with a relatively short stage through the lovely wine areas of Piedmont before a nasty kick up to the legendary finish at Santuario di Oropa.

A tough final climb could be an occasion to impact the general classification, but often when there is just the one climb the main contenders can behappy just to mark each other.

This may not be the stage that favourite Nairo Quintana will have targeted to get back into the lead, the high Alps wait next week and they may prove more suitable.

Frenchman Thibault Pinot is itching to pick up a stage like this but may lie too close to the overall lead to be allowed to ride away today.

We look for a good climber who is not too close to the lead.

It has been a disaster so far for Team Sky who lost their team leader Gerraint Thomas in a crash, and have had further misfortune affect top climber Mikel Landa.

Landa is still in the race though, but so far back he no longer poses a threat.  If he can recover from his travails of the last week, then this stage could suit, and his team will be desperate to make some impact on the race.

Recommendation:  Stage 14, Mikel Landa, 16/1 each way, Ladbrokes, Coral
