Sunday races have a mixed bag of jumps and flat of questionable quality. That said we are big fans of racing at Ripon – the Yorkshire track is beautiful (great scones), and often offers up some great betting opportunities.
We will start with the 9f handicap (1540 BST), which offers us the chance to back the progressive Weekend Offender. He was rapidly improving at the end of last season, and showed every sign of continuing that trajectory with an excellent 3rd on seasonal debut at Nottingham.
The form of that run has been franked since, and this race looks easier on paper. The slightly longer trip should help, and he could be a steering job for jockey Tom Eaves.
The following sprint handicap (1610) looks likely to be dominated by the very promising The Feathered Nest. This filly put up a cracking effort when 4th on her reappearance at Doncaster, finishing in eye-catching fashion. That form took a huge boost when the second, Ekhtiyaar, won a valuable race at Newmarket yesterday.
Paul Hanagan takes the ride and it should be a simple case of dropping her in at the start and waiting for a gap. If she runs to that last form, it should be far too good for this field at the weights.
We will back them both, and cover the double.
Weekend Offender, (1540 Ripon), 11/4, Stan James
The Feathered Nest (1610 Ripon), 5/2, Betfair
Weekend Offender & The Feathered Nest, win double.
