Monday Races: Bash the Bookies…

An otherwise mundane Monday can be saved by some action at Redcar races, that jewel of the Tees valley.

We will take another chance to play the redemption theory, the jockey in this case being champion Silvestre De Souza.   In the sprint handicap (1545 BST) he is reunited with top-weight Bashiba having ridden her last time out at Doncaster.

That day SDS managed to get into plenty of trouble in just a 12 runner field, and a strong finish was only good enough for second.  He’ll know he should have won, and today’s race gives him an obvious chance at redemption.

There are a number of form horses in the race, and Excessable and Dakota Gold will be hard to beat, but Silvestre will be on a mission, and Bashiba has a chance to right a few wrongs at a tasty price.

Soft ground at Leicester can be a gruelling test as the track can turn Somme-like after a heavy mist let alone a spell of rain.

The test will not worry Alan King’s filly Giveaway Glance (1935) who has winning soft ground form on flat and jumps.  She will be as fit as a flea after a campaign over jumps, and the cut in the ground should suit her a whole lot better than good to firm ground at Windsor last time.

A drop of 2lbs in the ratings for that last run should help and she can give jockey Fergus Sweeney a great chance.  The presence of the promising Eskendash should help make the market, and he along with Swaheen present the biggest dangers, but Giveaway Glance can swoop to beat them both.

Recommendations:

Bashiba (1540 Redcar), 15/2 generally available

Giveaway Glance (1935 Leicester), 10/1, Bet365, BetVictor

Bashiba & Giveaway Glance, each way double.
