Europa League: Doing it Poggy style…

It’s the final of the Europa League tonight, with Manchester United taking on Ajax in Stockholm’s Friends Arena.

United finished in sixth place in the Premier League in England, and will view this final as an excellent chance to gain entry into the Champions League, Europe’s premier tournament.

They will start as favourites, but there will be a somber air over proceedings given it comes just two days after the suicide bombing in Manchester which killed 22 people.

Ajax finished second in their domestic league, and are looking for the same Champions League reward. They have impressed this season with a brand of youthful, attacking football – having the most attempts on goal (and on target) in this season’s tournament. This from a team which recently fielded the youngest side, on average, in the history of the Dutch league.

Ajax haven’t reached a European final since 1996, and the question is whether these talented young players will freeze or respond to the occasion.

We at Lap of the Odds HQ expect experience to trump youthful exuberance, and predict a low scoring affair. United will rely on their big time players, and in terms of transfer fee none come bigger than Paul Pogba. The French midfielder offers an aerial threat from set pieces and may take penalties, and we will take him to score first at 11/1.

Recommendation: Paul Pogba to score first at 11/1, BetVictor
