Friday Races: Not a bad hombre…

On a good looking Friday card we head back to the Sussex Downs and another 7f handicap at Goodwood.

The second race on the card (1435 BST) is peppered with Goodwood specialists, but it also has a combination we love – a hold-up horse and Jamie Spencer.

Fox Trotter has yet to win since his debut, but he has run some fine races from off the pace, including his two efforts this season.  For the first time he gets the Spencer treatment, and the king of the waiting game can extract that little extra to secure victory.

A strong sprint handicap over at Haydock (1530) features six last time out winners.  Burrishoole Abbey won well at Ayr beating El Hombre and is better off at the weights.

That may be a bit too simplistic however as El Hombre was devastating in a 6 length romp last Friday and could be improving fast.

He gets to run here off a penalty before a much more severe rise kicks in, and trainer K Dalgleish (Keith not Kenny) has booked useful apprentice Rowan Scott to bring the weight back almost to last week’s level.

A hot race, but El Hombre can stay on the upward path.

Fox Trotter (1435 Goodwood), 4/1 generally available

El Hombre (1530 Haydock), 4/1 generally available

Fox Trotter & El Hombre, win double, 24/1
