Saturday Races: We’re with Out..

A great day’s racing has something for everyone.  One of the challenges of betting is exercising some self control, and today will test us to our limits.

We love York, and the big sprint there (1550 BST) is packed with potential.  One day this season will be the day to catch Watchable, but we will risk that it is not today.  Gamesome is another that catches the eye and could have the race run to suit – he doesn’t win often but looks a good each way chance.

For the win though, we give a confident vote to Out Do.  He is trained by David O’Meara, who has been in sensational form at this course.  The horse has slowly dropped in class, and showed plenty last time at Ripon when he could arguably have won with a cleaner run.  Everything looks set for a big race today.

Over at Goodwood, trainer Alan King finally steps his Top Tug up in distance (1620) after a series of promising staying efforts at 12f.  The form of his last run at Newmarket looks like it could work out very well, and today’s field, whilst long on quality, has numerous horses who might prefer longer or shorter or a more galloping track.

Jockey Andrea Atzeni does the steering, and he can get Top Tug home in first.

Atzeni is also entrusted with the steering on Mount Logan (1400) in Goodwood’s opener.  He rode the same horse to victory in this race last year on seasonal debut.  A proven liking for the course and proven at this class, he should have too much for a reasonably modest field of opponents.

Like kids in a sweetshop, we could point at a whole other number of bonbons, but we will stick to out best three on a busy day, and wrap them in an each way treble should we strike the jackpot.

Recommendations:

Out Do, (1550 York), 7/1, generally available

Top Tug, (1620 Goodwood), 5/1, generally available

Mount Logan, (1400 Goodwood), 11/4, generally available

Out Do & Top Tug & Mount Logan, each way treble.
