England take on South Africa today, leading 2-0 in the three match series. This “dead rubber” at Lords is an opportunity to rest some players and give game time to others.
England look likely to rest key all-rounder Ben Stokes, he will be replaced by a batsman, leaving England’s premier batsman Joe Root to be the sixth bowler with his casual off-spin.
We have been keen on Root all series as England’s best batsman, and he has been desperately unlucky not to land a big score, especially when run out backing-up last time.
He can get in the runs this time, and with England batting first in a possibly rain affected match, he can top score for the match should the South African innings be rain-curtailed.
