It truly is the calm before the storm, with all eyes focussed on Epsom for the weekend, a mundane Tuesday offers little to whet the appetite.
We will head to Lingfield and the all-weather surface where an interesting little heat awaits over the minimum five furlongs (1610 BST).
Brother Tiger tops the weights and the betting after a cosy win here last time. The 4lb rise is not excessive, but that was a blanket finish and the market may have slightly over-reacted.
We prefer the chances of the Richard Hughes trained Cultured Knight. He has proven a little hard to win with, being 2nd in 7 of his 11 races, and winning only once. Trainer Hughes though has reached for first time blinkers, and they may just produce the edge needed to finally convert those winning chances.
After a couple of runs under an apprentice, jockey Shane Kelly is entrusted to bring the best out of him in those first-time blinds. This is a horse that has always travelled well, and we will trust the headgear to get him past the favourite.
That aside, we will be keeping powder dry in advance of the Derby meeting.
Recommendation: Cultured Knight, (1610 Lingfield), 6/1 generally available.
