French Open: Del Potro the Juan to be on

The second Grand Slam of the tennis season has kicked off with very little by way of shocks as most of the main protagonists have eased through the second round of the Men’s draw.

A lot has been made of the draw as a host of the top, in form players have been placed together in the lower half. This means that the odds for Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic look prohibitive given their tough path to the final.

One’s misfortune is another’s fortune as they say and we look to the other side of the draw for some serious value.

And that value takes the form of Juan Martin Del Potro who is trading at an incredible 50/1.

This is a real each way play given the Argentinian is back to full fitness and hitting the ball with the ferocious power he is renowned for.

Injury plagued for so many years Del Potro has struggled to build on his one Grand Slam victory at the US Open but there is no doubting his talent.

He is no lost cause on clay either having previously reached the last eight and four on his previous two visits here.

His form this season gives more cause for optimism having played well in several tournaments beating Kei Noshikori comfortably (a good form line with the Japanese in the same side), while losing to Djokovic three times having pushed him hard – going to the final set on two occasions.

A straight sets win in the first round augurs well  and a 3rd round match up against an out of sorts Andy Murray could be the only real test before getting to the last eight.

There is every chance that Del Potro will outplay his odds and go deep at Rolland Garros.

Recommendation:  JM Del Potro, 50/1 each way (1/2 the odds 1-2), Skybet, Boylesports
