PGA Tour: Get me to the Chappell…

The PGA Tour heads to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio for the Memorial Tournament later this week.

This is the golf tournament that Jack Nicklaus built, and is one of only five given special “invitational” status by the PGA Tour.

Not particularly long, Muirfield Village is known as a second-shot course, where the proximity to the hole from the fairway counts.

Favourite is again world no. 1 Dustin Johnson. And he could go close, but I’m not sure 5/1 screams value at a course which has produced such unheralded winners as William McGirt and David Lingmerth in the last two years.

Instead, we at Lap of the Odds, fresh off selecting last weekend’s winner (Kerching! Subscribers enjoy a 28/1 Kiss…) are going to go down the each way route this week.

First up is Tony Finau. From Salt Lake City in Utah, Finau hits the ball a mile off the tee but also is ranked 21st on Tour at the crucial second shot, the approach to the green. He has put in some solid performances this season, and is quoted at 40/1.

Our second pick is Kevin Chappell. The Californian has already won this season and has form around this course, finishing second in 2013. Known to be a good friend of last week’s winner Kevin Kisner, we’re hoping some of the associated goodwill will rub off on this 60/1 shot.

Recommendations: Finau each way at 40/1 and Chappell each way at 60/1, both  at 1/4 the odds for the first six places, BetFred
