Well that was a gripping month that swung on one afternoon’s racing.  Until Saturday 13th it was a month of devastation with one solitary horse win and losses starting to rack up.  Then a double strike (John Constable 8/1, Fastnet Tempest 11/2) started a turning of the tide, and by month end we were flying again, but not without some bloodied-nose lessons on the way to a handsome final return.

Horse Racing was the star sector again this month, returning 31.25pts of profit from 50 bets.  Highlights included the two listed above and Giveaway Glance 14/1, and others including winners at 7/1, 11/2, 5/1, 9/2, 4/1… I once discussed with the UK head of Paddy Power what was their least profitable racing  – the answer was flat racing in June and July…bring it on.

Football had a topsy-turvy end to the premier league season.  Ultimately the month finished precisely flat from 28 bets.  That said, we did find a useful edge in Man of the Match betting, with 6 wins from 13 over the last 6 weeks, yielding 18pts of profit.  That will be a likely focus come the new season.

Golf had another fine month thanks to the end-of-month success of Kevin Kisner at 28/1 (each way) at Colonial, a much needed boost after a number of desperately close near misses throughout the month.  With the US Open coming up soon as we reach Majors fever pitch, golf will continue to be core to our Summer betting.

The loose bundle of “Other” sports proved to be an expensive hobby this month, with only two wins from 24 bets.  Whilst there were some very hard luck stories in there, that is the nature of betting, and we have to take the lack of success in May as a warning shot, bailed out on this occasion by success in our core sports.  It could be a timely lesson as the ICC cricket trophy, the Lions Tour, Grand Slam tennis and the Tour de France all offer multiple forthcoming attractions.  We will aim to be highly selective.

As in previous months, good priced winners have more than compensated for low strike-rates, but we know that doesn’t suit all subscribers. We will continue to push for more reliable returns (to the extent sports betting allows), stay tuned for posts on new initiatives for June.

Thanks again for the support.  Bring on June.
