This season’s Champions League comes to a conclusion this evening, as Juventus take on Real Madrid in Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
These two teams have history. This will be the 19th meeting in this competition, the second most frequent clash, with both sides winning eight times and two draws.
However, they only met in a final once before, Real coming out on top 1-0 in 1998. And that’s where Real have a distinct advantage. The Spanish giants have won 11 of their 15 finals, while Juve have lost six of eight, including their last four.
Essentially this game boils down to the competition’s best attack taking on its most impressive defence. Real have scored in all of their 12 games, and 32 in total, while Juve have conceded just three in an unbeaten campaign.
We at Lap of the Odds are going to side with the team with the strong defence, and going to take a punt on Juve’s goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon winning the man of the match award.
The 39-year-old has won everything the game has to offer, apart from the Champions League. This would be a fitting end to a stellar career.
Recommendation: Buffon to win man of the match at 10/1, Paddy Power
