Saturday Races: Get Loaded !!

A busy Saturday tends more towards quantity than quality with the prospect of Royal Ascot drawing near.

Newmarket offers some of the most competitive racing of the day.

The sprint handicap (1505 BST), offers a late chance for some runners eyeing up the prestigious Wokingham handicap at Royal Ascot to help secure their places by earning a weight penalty for winning this event.

Culturati has to overcome an 18 month break from the track, he has been a well backed favourite to do so, and needs the win for Ascot, but he looks short enough given the absence.

Al Qahwa also needs the win, and has improved, as so many do, for a switch to David O’Meara’s yard.  He must have a good chance having won a decent race at York last time.

We prefer the longer priced Spring Loaded who ran an excellent 7th in the Wokingham last year, and can warm up for a repeat effort by winning this.  He was returning from a break when running well despite being hampered at an unsuitable Chester.  Back here on a course that should suit his late closing style, he can defy the odds and floor the favourites.

Half an hour earlier, a decent 7 furlong handicap gives recent Epsom winner Juanito Chico a chance to repeat his success.  That was an admirable win from off the pace, and if anything this course should be much more suitable.

He is only 7lbs higher, but has been showing signs of being very progressive this season and can defy the hike.

Recommendations:

Juanito Chico (1430 Newmarket), 7/2 generally available

Spring Loaded (1505 Newmarket), 10/1 Ladbrokes
