The second midweek game of this British & Irish Lions tour is on Tuesday, as the visitors take on the Highlanders in Dunedin.
After inflicting the first defeat of the season to the Crusaders on Saturday, the Lions will likely have a bounce in their step, but face another difficult opponent.
The Highlanders may be ranked fourth out of the five Kiwi Super Rugby franchises, but they have won 10 out of 14 matches this season, and won the title as recently as 2015. Anyway, let’s not forget that the fifth ranked side, the Blues, beat the Lions last week!
The home team will be without All Black backs Aaron Smith and his namesake Ben, and are likely to rely on the bulk of the side which pushed the Crusaders very close last time out.
It’s all change again for the Lions after Saturday’s welcome result, and this selection begins to have a midweek feel to it. That said, the players will still be very keen to press their cases for Test selection.
A suffocating defence was the key to the Lions’ victory on Saturday, and Tuesday’s team will be keen to match this. We look for the Lions to win a low scoring match, especially with some rain predicted.
Recommendation: Lions to win and under 50.5 points scored in total at 5/2, 1 pt, Paddy Power
