Lions Tour: Looking for Irish Power

The British & Irish Lions tour continues Saturday, with the tourists taking on the Maori All Blacks at the Rotorua International Stadium.

The Lions suffered another agonising loss on Tuesday to the Highlanders, but have picked a side this time which looks close to the likely first Test lineup.

This is largely the team which beat the Crusaders last Saturday, and as such which likely start with a degree of confidence.

They face a group of very talented individuals in the Maori ABs, but a team that plays together infrequently. The Maoris will want the game to break up so they can show off their instinctive skills, while the Lions will be keen to play set piece rugby.

We at Lap of the Odds HQ look for the Lions to impose themselves in the tight, as they did to the Crusaders.

One player who will be very keen to play well on Saturday is the Irish breakaway Sean O’Brien. He is competing with the Tour captain Sam Warburton for the no. 7 jersey and must put in a dominant performance to have a chance of a Test spot. A likely carrier of the ball from line out mauls, we bet each way O’Brien scores the first try of the match.

Recommendation: O’Brien scores first try at 19/1, 0.5 pt each way at 1/4 the odds for the first three tries, Paddy Power
