Monday Races: Double Trouble at Wooly Bags….

June has been a painful month for us on the horses so far – not least when recommending doubles – with a record of 9 goes, no doubles landed, but 6 instances of one winner (including yesterday).  Einstein would famously label us as insane, but we will keep knocking on that door in expectation of it opening soon.

Today’s double comes courtesy of Wolverhampton, whose horse-racing marginally better than greyhounds style quality just about sums up this Monday.

The 7f handicap (1645 BST) looks like it could set up for Patanjali.  This horse needs a pace to aim at, and front-runner Zebelini could just set up the race perfectly. Last time at Lingfield, Patanjali met trouble in running before flashing home to be beaten a head and a neck.  Wolverhampton can be kinder to closers, and this race looks perfect.

An hour later, the 1m handicap looks like a competitive joust between the 3 market leaders.  Makhfar looks likely to go off favourite after a win last time, but a 23 run career offers the handicapper plenty of chances to know where this horse lies, and a highest rating for nearly 2 years might be a shade too much.

Rattle On needs a strong gallop at this trip but certainly ranks as a danger.  We prefer Lord Murphy who after only 9 lifetime runs, and 2 handicap wins in his last 5, could easily have more to offer.  He may have been unsuited here last time to a race run at a crawl.  A stronger gallop looks likely and he can regain the winning thread.

The double looks likely to pay nicely if we can disprove Einstein !!

Recommendation:  Patanjali (1645 Wolverhampton) & Lord Murphy (1745 Wolverhampton), 1pt win double, approx 14/1 Skybet.
