European Tour: Bernt Offerings

The European Tour heads to France this week, with Le Golf National–venue of the 2018 Ryder Cup–hosting the Open de France.

This course is widely regarded as one of the best played all season, and most difficult, and takes a little bit of knowing.

Additionally, rain and wind is forecast for the four days, so experience and patience may be required.

The defending champion is the veteran Thai player Thongchai Jaidee, but it’s another past champion that we at Lap of the Odds will be putting our cash on.

Bernd Wiesberger has been playing well for some time, including winning the Shenzhen International in late April. He finished top 20 last week in Germany and won this tournament in 2015. The Austrian is generally available at 18/1, and we will be taking that.

The other player we will be taking an interest in is Ross Fisher. The long-hitting Englishman is an experienced member of the European Tour, with multiple wins and a Ryder Cup behind him. Although he didn’t feature prominently in the US Open, his form of late has been good. He seems to perform better on difficult courses, and we will go each way at 40/1.

Recommendation: Wiesberger to win at 18/1, 1 pt, widely available, and Fisher at 40/1, 0.5 pts each way, Paddy Power/Coral to 7 places
