The PGA Tour moves on this week to the Quicken Loans National in Maryland.
This event is in its 11th year, but is held this year at TPC Potomac for the first time, with the course having undergone recent extensive reconstruction.
The venue is likely to prove a tricky test for the players. It has been used on the Web.com Tour, the second tier of US golf, in 2012 and 2013, and very few players beat par on both occasions.
The favourite for this week’s tournament is Rickie Fowler. He is having a very good season, but we at Lap of the Odds think 7/1 is too short for a player who has had difficulty turning solid play into wins.
Instead we will take a punt on Kevin Chappell. The 30-year old American has already won this season, the Valero Texas Open in April, and seems to perform best on tough courses. At 28/1, we think he offers value on what is likely to be a difficult tournament.
Additionally, while most of the field will not have played at this reformed course, David Lingmerth has, and well. He won at TPC Potomac in 2012 on the Web.com Tour. On top of this he has been playing well, finishing tied 21st at the US Open and tied 26 at the Travelers Championship last weekend. At 33/1, we think he offers each way value.
Recommendations: Chappell to win at 28/1, 1pt win, Stan James and Lingmerth at 33/1, 0.5 pts each way, SkyBet
