Lions Tour: Let’s try Mako…

The decider – the last game of the Tour and a chance for immortality for this group of Lions.

Winning in New Zealand doesn’t come easy, only once before have the Lions achieved this, and that was way back in 1971.

Last weekend’s memorable victory was the first time the All Blacks had lost at home since 2009, and they haven’t lost at Eden Park, tomorrow’s venue, since France played rugby from the Gods in 1994.

That said, the bookies know all this, hence the 11 point handicap they have lumbered the hosts with to create an even betting event. We at Lap of the Odds think this is fair, and can’t see an edge here.

However, we did notice how more aggressive the Lions were up front in the second Test, and think they will continue in that vein. With this in mind, we will take a punt on burly prop Mako Vunipola channeling his aggression in a more positive way–he was yellow carded last weekend for a pointless late tackle–and scoring the first try at 80/1. An each way bet means 1/4 the odds for the first three tries.

Recommendation: Vunipola to score first try at 80/1, 0.5 pts each way, Paddy Power
