Racing everywhere on Saturday, with plenty to tempt the punter.
We’re going to put our faith in two horses who, for fear of the pot calling the kettle black, will be carrying a little extra weight.
First up, and top of the weights at Newbury (1350 BST) is the John Gosden trained Remarkable. He is an established high grade handicapper, and was noted in particular running a huge race at Royal Ascot in the Hunt Cup last time when not exactly drawn well.
His trainer could have picked a number of quality races since then, but clearly feels this Newbury test will be ideal. The returning Frankie Dettori in the saddle is no hardship, and even if he’s been on the rigatoni during his absence, top weight should help.
Later at Newmarket (1550 BST), the lower weights dominate the market. We were tempted by 3yo Temple Church, but its another top-weight, Master The World who also ran well in the Hunt Cup, who gets the vote.
He came from off the pace to finish 8th at Ascot, and with a strong pace here assured via Masham Star, he can have the race set up perfectly. A decent 5lb claim off his back gives him his lowest rating for a while, and he can come on from that Ascot run which was his first since a Spring Dubai campaign.
Remarkable, (1350 Newbury), 1pt win, 7/2 Stan James
Master The World, (1550 Newmarket), 1pt win, 7/1 generally available
Remarkable & Master The World, 1pt win double, approx. 35/1
