The most intriguing action on a dull Tuesday afternoon comes from the boggy grounds of West Wales, where rain drenched turf awaits those making the journey out to Ffos Las.
Ffos Las can get very testing, but the weather looks forecast to be kind so truly bad conditions are likely to be avoided.
The second division of the 10f handicap (1600 BST) offers an interesting betting angle. The joint favourites are Sakhalin Star, who is around 3/1 even though he has won two from 64 lifetime runs; and Phebes Dream who has a first run in over a year.
Weardiditallgorong hasn’t won for two years yet is still on a higher mark than those wins.
That leaves handicap debutante Katabatika. She has shown nothing to date, but trainer Hughie Morrison is an expert at getting a good rating, and this filly is both bred to be much better and to handle soft ground. She is ingredient X in a race of otherwise disappointing recipe.
The closing race (1730) looks booked for Clive Cox’s young 3yo Del Parco. He has only had the four runs, but has looked consistent, should handle the soft ground well as a son of Delegator, and has more scope for improvement than his rivals.
It is not a day for dishing out too many bets, so we will just dabble on the double…
Recommendation: Katabatika (1600 Ffos Las) & Del Parco (1730 Ffos Las), 1pt win double, approx. 16/1
