PGA Tour: DJ to claim WGC

The run of prestigious golf tournaments continues this week, with the WGC-Bridgestone International at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

The par-70 course measures 7,400 yards and is tree-lined, requiring length as well as accuracy off the tee.

The top three in the betting are Jordan Speith, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy.

Jordan takes the role of favourite after his spectacular Open win, but that victory will have taken a lot out of him. He may be more focused on the upcoming US PGA as he tried for his personal majors grand slam.

Rory showed signs of a return to form during the Open, but has since sacked his long time caddy. He may also be looking at the next major, which is being held at Quail Hollow, one of his favourite courses.

DJ has had a dip from the high standard he set earlier in the season, but played well in patches at Birkdale and last week in Canada. He’s the defending champion and we will side with him to win his third WGC event this season.

Elsewhere, Kevin Chappell shaped very well in Canada last weekend, finishing high up the leaderboard. We’ll take him to do something similar this week, and will have some each way money on him.

Our long shot is Brian Harman. The lefty has already won this season, at the Wells Fargo in May, and finished tied second in the US Open at Erin Hills. We’ll take a triple digit price on such a player.

Johnson, 1 pt win, 10/1 widely available

Chappell, 0.5 pts each way, at 60/1, Bet365

Harman, 0.5 pts each way, at 125/1, SkyBet
