Today’s sees the annual curtain raiser for the English football season, with last year’s Premier League champion Chelsea facing FA Cup winner Arsenal for the Community Shield at Wembley.
This match is a repeat of the FA Cup final, in which the Gunners triumphed 2-1, but it’s difficult to see this as providing an edge for the North London giant as the FA Cup winners have never gone on to beat the Premier League champions in the following season’s Community Shield.
Both teams have selection issues. Alexis Sanchez is a doubt for the Gunners having just returned to training, while Chelsea’s star player Eden Hazard is still recovering from ankle surgery in the summer.
We at Lap of the Odds HQ have a slight inkling for Chelsea today, but given the state of flux both sides are in at the moment not enough to be confident. Instead we will look for the Blues’ midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas to provide an assist during the match against his old club.
Recommendation: Fabregas to provide an assist at 5/2, 1 pt, Paddy Power
