The final day of the Galway festival finds us nursing sore Galway heads, and sore Goodwood wallets. The sight of yesterday’s big tip Growl cruising to join the lead entering the final furlong had hopes soaring, even if there was the nagging doubt that his young jockey had shown him a bit too much daylight the whole way. Optimism gave way to doubt as the over-racing took its toll in a weak last 50 yards, losing out narrowly.
The last day of Galway is peppered with horses looking to make the trip west worthwhile by making a repeat appearance after running here earlier in the week.
One such is Galway stalwart Baraweez (1555). This old favourite of ours is making his 4th year of doubling up here. Earlier in the week we tipped him for a big mile handicap in which he had previously finished 3 times in the top 5…. this time he was 6th. Frankly we were disappointed and wrote him off for future bets – but it turns out we are pretty forgiving because here we are a few days later.
This was always his better race – winner in 14 & 15 and third last year, but its the draw that swings it. Favourite and mile winner Riven Light is out so wide he’s practically in County Clare, whilst second favourite Tithonus has the opposite problem drawn on the rail with all the traffic problems that can entail.
Baraweez has the prime draw in stall 4, and is worth one final act of faith.
A little later (1730), the last flat handicap of the meeting offers a chance to get behind an in-form Mr Adjudicator. He ran here on Monday when staying on well from the rear albeit not well enough to overhaul a well judged front running ride on the winner.
That showed he is running into top form and this slightly longer trip can play into his favour. A wide draw shouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience given the long distance and his preferred hold up style and he looks a good price to go one better.
Baraweez (1555 Galway), 1pt win, 9/1 Boylesports.
Mr Adjudicator (1730 Galway), 1pt win, 8/1 generally available.
Baraweez & Mr Adjudicator, 0.5pts each way double, approx. 89/1.
