Wednesday Races: Get Set for Boosh Swoosh..

More defeat snatched agonising from the jaws of certain victory yesterday when Lady Joanna Vassa’s mind wandered, then her legs wandered and she threw away a wide margin lead to get mugged on the line.

Just when there looks to be light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out to be the 14.23 express from Paddington.

Onwards and (surely) upwards and it’s off to that old midweek favourite Pontefract.

First up (1610 BST) is an in form sprinter carrying a big weight.   Tarboosh is penalised for a recent Beverley win and faces a 10st 4lb burden you’d normally associate with the County Hurdle rather than a Ponty sprint.

It is though well earned, and the Boosh’s sudden improvement post wind-operation has seen two stylish wins that threaten more.  He may still have one chance to outclass this grade again before moving up to the big boys.

A little later, Ponty winner Rockwood returns to the scene of his early season triumph.  He has continued to run well since and his run last time at Ayr was eyecatching as he had to come from behind on an easy track off a slow pace.

That was never going to work, but back at a stiff track and with a prime draw, he should just need a bit of luck in running (we must be due) and he can repeat his course heroics.

Recommendations:

Tarboosh (1610 Pontefract), 1pt win, 6/1 Paddy Power, Betfred

Rockwood (1630 Pontefract), 1pt win, 13/2 generally available

Tarboosh & Rockwood, 0.5pt each way double, approx 52/1
