Premier League: Xhaka Can…

The new Premier League season starts tonight, with Arsenal hosting the champions from two seasons ago, Leicester City.

The Gunners start the season in fine fettle after beating Chelsea last weekend to win the Community Shield. Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac are likely to make their league debuts, but talisman Alexis Sanchez misses out.

Leicester are also missing a couple of players, most notably influential midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

The Foxes also have to cope with a dreadful record against today’s opponent. Arsenal have won 10 successive home games against the Foxes, their longest home winning streak against a particular rival. In fact, the last time Leicester won an away league game against the Gunners was in 1973.

This all points to a home win, but the bookies have factored all this into their odds, with the home team odds on to win.

Instead we look to markets where bookies may overstretch themselves.  They are slow to price up our favoured Man of the Match market where we like Arsenal enforcer Granit Xhaka who we believe will make the conversion from walking red card to commentators’ darling this season.

BetVictor though have sought to expand the widespread Anytime Goalscorer market to include subdivisions of how a goal is scored.

Xhaka, 5/1 to score, looks fairly priced at 11/2 to score with his left foot (he only uses the right for two-footed lunges) – but it’s the 14/1 to score from outside the box that excites.  The Swiss deep-lying midfielder rarely ventures into the box but has a ferocious long range shot.  Add in the potential to take over direct free kick duties and we would expect him to be much more likely to score from outside than inside the box.

For the more adventurous, the same bet can be laid for First Goalscorer at 45/1.

Recommendation:  Granit Xhaka – Anytime Goal from Outside the Box, 1pt win, 14/1 BetVictor
