The new season certainly started with a bang at the Emirates last night with goals a plenty, and we expect more of the same in today’s early game as Watford entertain Liverpool.
The home side are likely to give debuts to record signing Andre Gray (even Watford are spending over £18 million on a player!) and Brazilian striker Richarlison. Liverpool are missing Coutinho–struck down with a Barcelona back–and Adam Lallana, but should welcome back captain Jordan Henderson.
The Reds have had the better of this fixture of late, winning four out of the last five away games versus Watford in the top flight, but the exception was Jurgen Klopp’s heaviest defeat as a Liverpool manager, 3-0 in December 2015.
Despite the absence of some talented attacking players, we at Lap of the Odds still expect Liverpool to have too much for the home team. New signing Mohamed Salah is likely to cause problems for the home team, but we’re going to go for pacy winger Sadio Mane to be the main danger and expect him to pick up the man of the match award.
Recommendation: Mane to win man of the match at 4/1, 1 pt, Paddy Power
