Premier League: Feeding Christian to the Geordies…

Newly promoted Newcastle host Premier League runners up Tottenham in today’s first game, a tough match for the Geordies to celebrate their return to the top flight.

Now it’s true Spurs don’t have the best of records at St. James’ Park, they have only won two of their last 10 league games there, and they were beaten 5-1 in the most recent meeting in May 2016, but this is likely to be different.

Spurs have won 12 of their last 13 Premier League matches, and have won all of their league fixtures against promoted sides in the last two seasons, with a thumping aggregate score of 34-5.

Sticking with our man of the match theme, striker Harry Kane has been a  tormentor of newly promoted teams, but his record in August is not impressive. Instead we will side with the player that pulls the strings at Spurs, step forward midfield playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Danish star has been a key player for Spurs since joining in 2013, and contributed eight goals and 15 assists last season. These stats coupled with a hefty 7/1 price suggest Eriksen is worth a two point bet to be man of the match.

Recommendation: Eriksen to be man of the match at 7/1, 2 pt, William Hill
