Manchester United start their challenge for the Premier League title with a home game against West Ham this afternoon.
New signings Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic are set to start, while the Hammers are likely to play former United favourite Javier Hernandez.
As talented a side as the Hammers are, Manchester United could not have asked for a better start. They have won 17 of their 21 home league matches against West Ham, and haven’t lost to them at Old Trafford for 10 years.
The Red Devils have only lost once in 13 opening-day Premier League fixtures at Old Trafford, while manager Jose Mourinho has never lost a Premier League opener.
With this in mind, it’s important to look to the Man United ranks for a potential man of the match.
Lukaku has an obvious chance, being the home team’s main striker, but we’re going to side with French midfield star Paul Pogba. We at Lap of the Odds think the introduction of Matic to provide defensive midfield cover should enable Pogba to show the full array of his talent further up the field.
