Kerching: 40/1 tip wins US PGA

The final major of the golfing year, the US PGA, ended with a bang Sunday, with a number of players exchanging the lead over the back nine.

But it also ended with the sound of wads of cash being put into wallets for subscribers to the Lap of the Odds blog as the golfer who eventually came out on top was Justin Thomas, the young American who had been tipped by the blog at the start of the tournament. (US PGA: Driving Mr Koepka)

Thomas’s major victory is the third in a row for Americans in their 20s, after Brooks Koepka and Jordan Speith, and doesn’t bode well for the Europeans at next year’s Ryder Cup. But we’ll cross that betting bridge when we come to it!

The end of the majors, however, is not the end of the golfing action, with the lucrative cash bonanzas of the FedEx Cup and the Race to Dubai stretching the season deep into October. Bring it on.
