In the doldrums betwixt Goodwood and York we have to make do with some mediocre action. Today’s betting highlights look like coming from north of the border.
We are tempted by old favourite Weekend Offender, but we’re not sure these small field races are ideal.
We would rather focus on a more recent blog-pick, Lady Joanna Vaasa (1615 BST) who really should have won a race at Catterick last week. She was clear that day before wandering late on and surrendering a big lead in the shadow of the line.
It is no surprise to see this speedy mare turned out quickly on another track that favours front runners. It is also no surprise to see a change of rider, with the very strong Joe Fanning unlikely to take any monkey business.
Earlier (1515), promising claimer Connor Vaughan renews his partnership with progressive 3yo Breanski. Once a winner and thrice a runner-up this year, this horse’s effort at York last time was a step ahead of what the rest of this mottley bunch can produce.
Provided Vaughan can chart a course from off the pace, then this race looks there for the taking.
Breanski (1515 Ayr), 1pt win, 3/1 generally available
Lady Joanna Vassa, (1615 Ayr), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available
Breanski & Lady Joanna Vaasa, 1pt win double, approx 19/1.
