Yesterday was successful courtesy of Sternrubin’s runaway win – but ultimately gutting when Masham Star looked set to land the second leg of a 50/1 double when striking clear at the furlong pole only to be run down in the shadow of the post by a remarkable fast finisher. This game certainly knows how to leave you feeling empty, even when you win !!
Today’s cards allow us to roll out one of our favourite systems – the jockey making amends. In this case Jamie Spencer rides Rigoletto (1520 BST) at Salisbury, knowing that he should have completed the horse’s hat-trick but for steering him into trouble at Newmarket last time. Spencer will not want to make the same mistake twice, and this fair track should be a penalty kick for Luca Cumani’s progressive handicapper.
We love Beverley (the racetrack), and can’t resist looking to augment the (almost certain!) Rigoletto winnings by picking one for the Yorkshire track. The closing 5f sprint (1745) looks booked for the in-form and well drawn Muatadel. He was another who narrowly failed to complete a hat-trick last time. He wasn’t unlucky, but that was a very good race, and this looks a whole lot easier. There doesn’t look much to fear and a continuation of his current form should be enough.
Recommendation: Rigoletto (1520 Salisbury) & Muatadel (1745 Beverley), 1pt win double, approx 9.5/1.
