The weekend’s Premier League action concludes with Pep Guardiola’s swashbuckling Manchester City team hosting Ronald Koeman’s quietly effective Everton.
Everton’s new signings provide a new spine for the team, from Michael Keane at the back, through Davy Klaasen and Gylfi Siggurdson in midfield and Wayne Rooney up front. Plenty of experience there and they should be able to absorb the loss of Romelu Lukaku without much damage to their league aspirations.
That’s the positive. The negative for the Toffees is that the Man City team haven’t stood still either. With several new men still to make the first team, the arrival of Kyle Walker has already looked a good signing. City ooze talent all over the pitch, and even a dangerman like Leroy Sane (and err Raheem Sterling) are struggling to make the starting line-up.
Amidst the new stars and youngsters like Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne, veteran City stars Sergio Aguero and David Silva continue to show they have a huge role to play.
A dazzling first match against Brighton simply lacked touch in front of goal, but City are back on home turf here, and for all that Everton look a strong side, a comfortable home win still looks assured.
In the pantheon of all-time commentators darlings, newly shaven-headed Gran Canarian midfield maestro David Silva, would come second only to Kenny Dalgleish. The wee Spaniard has looked in fine form already this season, and is value to catch the commentators eyes once again with his mesmeric midfield drifting-around tippy-tappy.
City always look vulnerable though, and even though Silva looks a good bet for Man of the Match gong, we also think Everton can get on the scoresheet. New centre back Michael Keane showed his set piece threat with a Europa League goal just last Thursday and rates as value in the Anytime Goalscorer market to notch for the Toffees again.
David Silva, Man of the Match, 1pt win, 9/1 William Hill
Michael Keane, Anytime Goalscorer, 1pt win, 18/1 Bet365
