Starting with the blues….This has been a truly sobering month on the horses. Some desperate near misses augmented by the occasional howler, and somehow talking ourselves out of backing Johnny Barnes yesterday being the biggest howler yet.
Well the only fair response to sobering moments is to hit the booze, and today’s tipple is a quick claret.
Goodwood’s sharp sprint track doesn’t suit all sorts but it should be perfect for Flowing Clarets.
This filly will be making her course debut, but she has winning form at Thirsk, Lingfield and Windsor – all sharp courses that correlate well with Goodwood.
As a 3yo last year she was capable of winning off marks in the 70s, and after a poor run and change of yard dropped down as low as 58 before winning again this year. Two runs ago she ran a blinder off today’s mark of 61, and can be forgiven a poor run last time when trapped out wide.
This is not the strongest of races and she doesn’t deserve to be a double figure price.
Now we just need to find something named after whiskey for Monday….
Recommendation: Flowing Clarets. (1740 Goodwood), 1pt each way, 16/1 Paddy Power
